Since being licensed to practice law in 1989, I have witnessed the disappearance of paper and the digitization of virtually everything. Accordingly, I recently moved to Stillwater for the opportunity to learn more about this digital world in which we live. I am enrolled in Oklahoma State University's Graduate College where I am pursuing a Masters of Science in Management Information Sciences with an emphasis on information security and data forensics.

Previously, I had practiced law in Tulsa with several quality law firms. Along the way, I have had the privilege of representing individuals, businesses and/or government agencies in a broad range of civil litigation. Some cases, of course, are more memorable than others.

As a solo practitioner in Stillwater, my emphasis has been on legal matters related to the creation, storage and evidentiary use of electronic documents and digital databases, like the countless electronic public records which are created and maintained at virtually every level of government. In a government of the people, by the people and for the people, public records, whether they exist on 8½ by 11 inch paper or as 0s and 1s in a digital database, belong to the people. If you encounter a government agency which is being less than cooperative regarding your request for public records, please, call me. I can help.

Significant Cases

  • One of my early cases involved defending Governor David Walters in a libel action brought against him by his gubernatorial opponent. I drafted a Motion for Summary Judgment and Brief in Support which the trial court granted. Following Plaintiff's appeal and the Oklahoma Supreme Court's acceptance of certiorari, the Oklahoma Supreme Court, by the narrowest of margins, affirmed the trial court's ruling. See Price v. Walters, 1996 OK 63, 918 P.2d 1370, 67 OBJ 1818 (Okla. 1996).

  • In a lawsuit which spawned the Osage Oil Producers Association, I represented more than two-hundred Osage County oil producers who sought to overturn a decision by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) which had assessed them millions of dollars in additional oil royalties. I drafted Appellant's Brief on appeal to the Interior Board of Indian Appeals, and following the BIA's response and my Reply, the Interior Board of Indian Appeals unconditionally reversed the BIA's original decision. See Okie Crude Co. v. Muskogee Area Director, 23 IBIA 174, 1993 WL 82163.
